Or should we say: “mindful concentration” (David O’Hare), as this kind of meditation is the result of a harmonious balance between concentration and mindfulness. To concentrate is to uninterruptedly direct all of our attention onto a specific subject, and correcting any distraction as soon as it is noticed. Mindfulness is the unrestricted acknowledgment of everything which occurs while we are concentrated, whether they be negative or positive thoughts. In practice, we first need to develop our ability to concentrate and, little by little, patiently integrate this constant state of attention which mindfulness provides.
